38th Charter Anniversary

Looking back into our club’s history brings back many meaningful memories of service, friendship, and fellowship. Each milestone reminds us of the dedication and Lionistic spirit that built our journey—from humble beginnings to strong sisterhood alliances, impactful community projects, and lasting friendships across borders. It is not just a reflection of the past, but a celebration of the values that continue to guide us today.

It all started at our 2nd Charter Anniversary on 12 May 1990 when LCGTM took a significant step forward by establishing its first international partnership through a twinning agreement with the Lions Club of Hatyai Central, Thailand—fulfilling one of the key objectives of Lions Clubs International in promoting international understanding and friendship.

A Lions Club “Sisterhood Alliance” or “Club Twinning” agreement is more than a formal partnership between two clubs, often across different districts or countries. It is a meaningful bond built on fellowship, collaborative service projects, cultural exchange, and shared humanitarian values. These alliances strengthen community impact, deepen friendships, and encourage greater volunteerism across borders.

Four years later, in 1994, the club signed another Sisterhood Alliance with the Lions Club of Singapore Fort Canning, and from there, the momentum continued to grow. In 1995, we twinned with the Lions Club of Medan Raya, followed by the Lions Club of Petaling Jaya Metro in 1997, and the Lions Club of Kota Budaya in 1999.

These relationships were never just ceremonial. Members visited one another regularly during anniversary celebrations, conventions, and special events, creating lasting friendships among families as well. More importantly, we carried out joint service projects together, making our Sisterhood Alliances truly meaningful and impactful.

This year, as our club celebrated its 38th Anniversary on 17 April 2026, we were deeply honoured to welcome 110 members from our sister clubs to join our celebration—a beautiful reflection of nearly four decades of friendship, unity, and Lionism in action.

LC George Town Mutiara is proud to share the successful completion of another cataract surgery within a week—marking yet another meaningful step in restoring sight and improving lives in our community.

Today’s beneficiary, Mdm Poon (76 yo), underwent surgery on her second eye. Living alone on a hillside, she faces multiple challenges as she has restricted movement, limited income, and hearing impairment. Despite her difficulties, she continues to support herself modestly by selling plants gathered from her surroundings at the Sunday market.

Recognizing her situation, LCGTM conducted a careful assessment and found her genuinely deserving of assistance under our cataract programme. With timely support, she received the treatment needed to restore her vision. Thanks to eye specialist Dr. Ho and Pantai Hospital Penang, the procedure was a great success. Lions visited Mdm Poon before her discharge.

This marks the second cataract surgery supported by LCGTM within a week, reflecting the club’s ongoing dedication to reaching out to those most in need. Through such efforts, we continue to bring light, hope, and dignity back into the lives of the underserved.

Mdm Therasa, aged 70, had been struggling with blurred vision due to cataracts. Her left eye was successfully operated three months ago in January with the support of the Lions.

Today, she underwent her second surgery for her right eye. With both procedures completed, her vision has been restored to normal.

She shared that she never expected such kindness from the Lions Club of George Town Mutiara and expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the Pantai Hospital Penang for its excellent care and services.

Bringing Joy to the Persatuan Syukur Penyayang Pulau Pinang - 8/3/2026

OC Lion Cindy Chew reported that 40 residents of the  Persatuan Syukur Penyayang Pulau Pinang Home were given lunch and red packets. Lions helped serve lunch to the residents, and 'Cai Shen Ye' was present to bring prosperity to all.  As the Home needs financial support to fulfill its role, several attendees made cheque donations. A Chinese performance was one of the highlights of the event.
